Dr. Terry Osback, M.D.
Dr. Terry Osback, MD, is the Chief Medical Officer for St. Anthony Foundation. He brings 40 years of experience to his position, spanning academic appointments, medical leadership positions, teaching, and clinical care. Dr. Osback previously served as a psychiatrist in St. Anthony’s Medical Clinic before his appointment to the foundation’s Chief Medical Officer.
Before joining St. Anthony’s, Dr. Osback held a variety of executive leadership positions in healthcare systems, most recently as the Chair of Psychiatry at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. Other notable positions include roles as Medical Director at Alaska Psychiatric Hospital and Anchorage Community Mental Health Center both in Anchorage, Alaska; and Unity Health in Portland, where he developed the first psychiatric emergency room in Oregon. Along with St. Anthony’s CEO, Dr. Larry Kwan, and others, he helped establish the Valley Homeless Healthcare Program at Valley Medical Center, where he developed an integrated model of behavioral healthcare in a primary care setting. This was the first Federally Qualified Health Center in the Valley Health and Hospital system of care and continues to function today after 20 years.
Dr. Osback has a track record of launching innovative programs throughout his career, including the first psychiatric emergency services programs in Oregon and Alaska, as well as the psychiatric emergency program at Valley Medical Center. He has led efforts in recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision of psychiatrists and advanced nursing practitioners, while establishing workflows and meeting regulatory requirements in collaboration with other hospital departments.
Dr. Osback is originally from Clovis in California’s Central Valley, and now resides in Orangevale, California. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Davis and his M.S. and M.D. from the UC Berkeley/UC San Francisco Joint Medical Program, he completed his psychiatry residency at UCSF. In his free time, he enjoys outdoor activities and is an avid hiker and horseback rider.
