St. Anthony’s Free Clothing Program Celebrates International Women’s Day by Hosting Special Day of Shopping and Free Makeovers for Women in the Tenderloin
March 9, 2023
Today, St. Anthony’s Free Clothing Program (FCP), the largest of its kind in San Francisco, welcomed approximately 90 women guests from the Tenderloin to enjoy a festive day of shopping and makeovers to mark International Women’s Day.
St. Anthony’s generous supporters, including GAP, Marine Layer, Everlane, and Tatcha, provided a variety of clothing items, hygiene supplies, and skincare products to each woman.
“Women’s Day 2023 is our largest event that we’ve run so far,” said Sam Brock, manager of St. Anthony’s Free Clothing Program. “We’re excited to be giving out some high-quality clothing to our guests.”
St. Anthony’s Free Clothing Program, which aims to give guests a true boutique store experience, provides new and gently-used clothing to individuals and families experiencing homelessness and poverty.
“Today, I can’t believe it. It’s really enjoyable,” said Mildred Tsen, a guest of the FCP. “Living in the city is really hard. Coming here, it’s a break from life. It’s a pleasurable excursion for me. You have such nice things.”
Clothing, which includes casual wear, warm winter wear, business attire, and children’s clothing is always offered, free-of-cost to recipients. In keeping with St. Anthony’s values, team members are called to recognize the inherent dignity of each guest, inviting them to select high-quality items that meet their personal needs and style preferences.
“When they thank me, I always say ‘thank you’. It helps me (to give) as much as it helps you, maybe even more.”
Marcellus Ducreay, St. Anthony’s FCP Service Lead
