Saying Thank You with a Picnic
Every day residents of the Father Alfred Center volunteer their time at St. Anthony’s Dining Room as a part of the work component of their rehabilitation program. Five days a week they chop vegetables (prep), stock shelves (shipping & receiving), clean dirty dishes (scullery) & help serve trays of food to thousands of guests with a smile. Every few months the Dining room likes to show them its gratitude for all of their hard work and dedication. Next week (thanks to the nice weather) they will be doing so with a picnic at Jackson Park.
FAC residents will be joined by Saint Anthony staff from Father Alfred Center, the Dining room & other departments for games, good food and old fashioned sitting in the sun. I’ve heard rumors of frisbees, kickball and kite flying.
Food (provided courtesy of Char & the Dining Room) will include spanakopita, roasted chicken, all-beef hot dogs, tossed green salad, couscous salad, drinks, chips, chocolate bars, and watermelon and fresh fruit.
Personally I always look forward to these picnics. It’s a great opportunity to get out of the office and spend some time with the guys who do so much for the Foundation. I’m also planning to take lots of pictures.
