We are living in a time of widespread disruption, rapid change, and growing polarization. In a world of texts, tweets and tribalism it is easy to get swept away by fear and divisiveness. We believe that we can all do our share to reverse this trend. When reason and compassion guide us, we can find common ground and practical solutions for the greater good. St. Anthony’s & the Franciscan School of Theology, spent the day on March 10 exploring how an emphasis on the whole person can help us to create a society in which all people can flourish.
The Franciscan School of Theology is committed to embodying Franciscan theology in a religiously and culturally diverse world. In our living, our learning, our relationships, and our community, we address both the head and the heart by integrating the pastoral and academic dimensions of theological study.
Our theological tradition encourages us to emphasize the unique revelation of God in each person, in every culture and in all creatures. We foster a special concern for those on the margins of society and the Church.
At St. Anthony’s, we are called to build a community of care that supports those most in need. Every day, we have the opportunity to experience how we can engage with our guests, volunteers, donors and the world with warmth, interest, gratitude, joy, and humor.
In the spirit of the Gospel, inspired by the joy and compassion of Francis and Clare of Assisi, in solidarity with all who hunger and thirst for justice and peace, and together with those we serve, our mission is to feed, heal, shelter, clothe, lift the spirits of those in need, and create a society in which all persons flourish.
We provide essential services in our Dining Room, our Hygiene Hub, and our Free Clothing Program. In our Medical Clinic and in our residential alcohol and drug recovery program we provide healing and quality care for those who would otherwise be left behind. We support our guests with barriers to employment in reconnecting with the work life through our Workforce Development Program and Technology Lab. We train, employ and promote our own guests while paying everyone a fair living wage.
Most of all, we focus on the whole person by connecting them with the services they need – ours and those of our community and city partners.
