Day 19: Ten Years & Counting
Today, we caught up briefly with Fabio, longtime volunteer (10 years!) in St. Anthony’s Dining Room.
Annabel: What brought you to St. Anthony’s?
Fabio: I had done volunteer work in Rome, Italy and it was so enjoyable—when I got here I wanted to try the American version.
Annabel: How did you find out about us?
Fabio: I bought a copy of Street Sheet and St. Anthony’s was featured in it. That’s how I found out about the volunteer opportunities at St. Anthony’s.
Annabel: What are some of your favorite moments from your decade of volunteer work?
Fabio: I really enjoy my interactions with the men from the Father Alfred Center who help out in the Dining Room. They are always so good-natured and their stories are heartwarming. Hearing their stories makes you realize that there really isn’t much that divides us. Also, I love hearing ‘thank you’ or ‘god bless’ from the guests in the Dining Room. It’s moving.
