St. Anthony’s Two-Day Back-to-School Drive at UC Hastings College of Law on Aug. 11 and 12
WHAT: St. Anthony’s is hosting a two day back-to-school drive for families experiencing homelessness and extreme poverty. Nearly 400 students are expected to attend this event, where they will have the opportunity to browse for new clothes and other back-to-school supplies, which are all available for free thanks to the generosity of individual and corporate donors. Photo opportunities will be available.
WHO: Hundreds of children; St. Anthony Foundation leaders and staff
WHEN: August 11-12, 2022, 8:30 a.m. – 2:45 p.m.
WHERE: UC Hastings College of Law, 200 McAllister St, Room ARC, San Francisco, CA 94102
WHY: It’s that time of year again, when the Tenderloin community’s 3,000+ children prepare to go back to school – to see their friends, meet new teachers and prepare for the year of learning ahead. For many children and youth, the beginning of the school year is a time of excitement and anticipation, but for those families experiencing homelessness and extreme poverty, it can also bring anxiety as they struggle to make ends meet. St. Anthony’s is grateful for the support of individual and corporate donors. A special thank you to UC Hastings for donating the space.
“Thanks to the generosity of our caring donors, we can continue providing back-to-school essentials for underserved families in the Tenderloin, in addition to life-saving services such as addiction treatment, mental health care, and job training that lead to stability.”
St. Anthony’s CEO Nils Behnke
MEDIA CONTACT: Sally Haims, 415-254-5884
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: In addition to school supplies and clothing, each child will receive a book donated by Chronicle Books.
All participating families have pre-registered through a St. Anthony’s case worker from the Resource Center. Due to an increase in participants, St. Anthony’s cannot accept any unregistered/walk-in families this year.
