FAC Pumpkin Carving Contest
On October 25th, five Father Alfred Center Residents & counselor Craig Surratt took a trip down the CA coast to Pasterino Farms in Half Moon Bay. Their mission was to choose 30 of the best pumpkins they could find & escort them back to Father Alfred Center for our annual Pumpkin Carving Contest. Pumpkin Carving began on Tuesday October 30th at 4 pm & lasted the hour. Designs of every sort, from minimalist classics and scary as Halloween itself to avant garde and just plain strange, began to take shape as seeds and pumpkin innards were trucked out by the pan full.
Judges from the St. Anthony Dining Room, Development, and Database departments (along with a small number of volunteers), came to choose their favorites from the many entries. After several rounds of suspenseful nail biting deliberation, the field of contestants was narrowed to three paragons of carved pumpkin greatness. The winners were awarded the highly coveted prize of gift cards to Walgreens, Starbucks & Burger King (1st 2nd & 3rd respectively).
A few interesting contenders that didn’t make the cut were debated by the judges. Some thought them to be high art akin to the likes of Jackson Pollock, while others scratched their heads unsure of what to think. It’s all in good fun & everybody had a great time with this annual Father Alfred Center Tradition.
