SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 20, 2024 — From Dec. 26 to Feb. 28, volunteers are needed to support the Dining Room, Free Clothing Program, and Tech Lab, ensuring food, clothing, and basic resources reach those who need them most after the holidays. Each day, up to 60 volunteers are required to serve more than 1,000 guests who come to St. Anthony’s for services, care and connection. By volunteering during this often-overlooked period, individuals can make a significant impact on the community, helping to bring stability and hope to San Franciscans facing hardship.
Volunteering not only supports those in need but also fosters connection and reduces loneliness for those who give—an issue affecting one in two adults, according to the U.S. Surgeon General. Giving time can be transformative, both for those served and for the volunteers themselves. Social connection is essential to health and wellness, and volunteering is a powerful way to strengthen community ties and well-being.
“At St. Anthony Foundation, volunteers are the heart and soul of how we express our mission in the Tenderloin. Volunteers connect the community to our work and allow the transformative experience of giving and receiving,” said Dr. Larry Kwan, CEO of St. Anthony’s.
