St. Anthony Foundation to Host 3rd Annual Leading the Way Awards Gala

Honoring exceptional leaders committed to building stronger communities

WHAT: St. Anthony Foundation is hosting its 3rd annual Leading the Way awards gala. The event recognizes four award winners (Stanford Medicine, Dr. Suzanne Giraudo, Zachary Barulich, and the Timothy Dunn), for their exceptional commitment and dedication to making a positive impact in our community through service, advocacy, and collaboration. Proceeds benefit St. Anthony’s programs toward fulfilling its mission – to feed, heal, shelter, clothe, lift the spirits of people in need, and create a society in which all persons flourish.

WHO: Heather Holmes (Emcee; KTVU Anchor and Reporter), Leading the Way award winners, St. Anthony’s Chief Executive Officer Dr. Larry Kwan, St. Anthony’s Board of Directors, Executive Team, and staff, notable donors and volunteers, and other luminaries.

2024 Award Recipients:

  • LEADING THE WAY IMPACT AWARD (ORGANIZATION) Stanford Medicine (Award accepted byDr. Sang-ick Chang, Clinical Professor, Medicine – Primary Care and Population Health): A provider advancing health equity by connecting student clinicians to vulnerable populations and offering low-barrier access to specialty care and mental health services through collaboration with St. Anthony’s and other Bay Area clinics.
    • LEADING THE WAY IMPACT AWARD (INDIVIDUAL) Suzanne Giraudo: Founder of De Marillac Academy, and a vital member of the St. Anthony’s Clinic Committee has been instrumental in creating a clinical behavior health program for Women’s and Children’s Services, providing crucial support for those affected by domestic violence. Her commitment to whole person care and the Franciscan tradition greatly benefits those she services.
    • LEADING THE WAY EMERGING LEADER Zachary BarulichA third-generation leader at BiRite, continuing his family’s legacy of giving back by ensuring St. Anthony’s Father Alfred Center receives nutritious, high-quality food. Committed to fostering strong relationships and making a lasting impact on the community through BiRite’s dedication to providing the food that people need to thrive.
    • LEADING THE WAY COMMUNITY PHILANTHROPIST Timothy Dunn: Emeritus Chair of St. Anthony’s Board of Directors, has made a profound impact through his 12 years of leadership, playing a key role in transforming St. Anthony’s into a self-sustaining organization funded solely by donors. His forward-thinking approach has led to innovative services, including the Hygiene Hub and guest food storage.

WHY: Located in the heart of the Tenderloin, St. Anthony Foundation provides essential services, health care, and employment for thousands of individuals experiencing addiction, homelessness, or poverty. A place of great love, St. Anthony’s provides low-barrier, integrated whole person care, informed by our Franciscan values and evidence-based best practices. We offer a welcoming healing community, a pathway to stability, and a model for broader change. Our goal is to build trust over time with individuals and to give each person the tools and opportunity to sustainably exit homelessness.

Primarily privately funded, the foundation is focused on the unique needs of each individual—or guest. Comprehensive services include free warm meals, hot showers and laundry facilities, clothing, medical care, residential recovery, job training, peer support, and more.

“The challenges facing our community including poverty, homelessness, and addiction, are complex and difficult. St. Anthony’s cannot do this work alone.
