St. Anthony’s Celebrates Community Resiliency on the Golden Gate Greenway at 2nd Annual Phoenix Day 

What an inspiring, uplifting day for our Tenderloin neighbors! On Sunday afternoon, St. Anthony’s, TNDC and GLIDE joined forces to transform three blocks into car-free community spaces where children, families, seniors, and a few pets enjoyed live music, carnival games, giveaways, face painting, food, information about services and more. The 2nd Annual Sunday Streets Phoenix Day was a smashing success and a testament to the power of working together across sectors to improve the lives of San Franciscans.

Hats off to Emma Jarvis and Erin McLaughlin for their hard work and creativity making our family fun hub on the Golden Gate Greenway a welcoming (and green) space for our neighbors. Kids and adults alike couldn’t get enough of the houseplant giveaways- a little piece of the Golden Gate Greenway until our community’s green oasis becomes a reality!

A huge round of applause to the many St. Anthony’s team members who took time over the weekend to share about our Medical Clinic, Resource Center, Hygiene Hub, Dining Room, Tech Lab, and more services with visitors.

And many thanks to Senator Scott Wiener, Supervisor Dean Preston, SFMTA Transportation Director Jeffrey Tumlin, and Katy Birnbaum of Livable Cities for joining us to celebrate and for your invaluable ongoing support of the Golden Gate Greenway.

When asked how to inspire hope with projects like the Golden Gate Greenway that benefit the entire community, Nils shared, “You do it one block at a time. And if you can show what you can do on one block, why can’t you do it on another block? Some people…are down on the City and down on the Tenderloin and I think we all need to be the change we want to see and actually make change happen.”
