Day 29: Solidarity in Action
To celebrate day 29 of National Volunteer Month, we are highlighting an article written by the University of San Francisco (USF) that spotlights students who volunteer at our Fr. Alfred Center.
Every Friday for one hour, a group of undergraduate USFers stop by the Fr. Alfred Center to meet with men in recovery. The students share stories, listen, and participate in group activities, such as meditation and poetry readings.
“The residents love when we visit, and we love being there,” says Samantha Young, one of the students.
The students work to provide a supportive environment fostering dignity, respect, and community. One resident noted, “They treat us fairly, even though we’ve been through what we’ve been through. It gives you a lot of hope and confidence.”
